Required Equipment and Gear

 

Teams may be randomly subjected to a gear-check and it is the teams' responsibility to oblige the Race Official in a timely and civil manner.  Failures can cause time penalty or disqualification.

 

Each TEAM must have the following available to their members:

  • Backpack with our without water bladder
  • Water, recommend 100 oz.
  • Maps provided by the Event
  • Fleece medium weight long sleeve top
  • Waterproof top outer layer, jacket or shell
  • Waterproof pants
  • Hat, with visor
  • Gloves, medium weight
  • Knife, fixed or locking blade
  • Survival mirror
  • Whistle
  • Waterproof matches or lighter
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Protective eyewear
  • Two Compasses
  • Flashlight or head lamp and working batteries
  • Extra Batteries
  • Map, dry bag
  • Hand shovel
  • Space Blanket
  • First Aid Kit including:
  • Adhesive tape
  • Antacids
  • Antibacterial Ointment
  • Antihistamines
  • Anti-Inflammatory; Motrin, etc.
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Assorted band aids
  • Moleskin
  • Sterile dressings & gauze
  • Tweezers
  • First Aid:

    Because of the breadth of terrain and remoteness of portions of the course, each team is responsible for their own basic first aid. A complete first aid kit is required for each team to be kept in vehicle and available for presentation at registration.

    • Bee sting kit
    • Elasticon tape 2”
    • Eye patch bandage
    • Glucose Tabs
    • Instant ice packs
    • Moleskin
    • Purell waterless disinfectants
    • Rubber gloves
    • Rubbing Alcohol
    • Scissors
    • Steri strips, various sizes
    • Sterile dressings & gauze
    • Tampons (for nose bleeds too)
    • Triangular bandage
    • Tweezers
    • Water proof adhesive tape
  • Biking Equipment:

    • Helmet that meets the ANSI or Snell safety standards
    • Bike tools including; patch kit, pump/CO2, inner tubes, chain tool, allen keys, and tire irons
    • Front Light affixed to bicycle
    • Rear reflector affixed to bicycle
  • On Water Equipment:

    • P.F.D. US Coast Guard approved Life Jacket
  • Forbidden Equipment:

    • Cell Phone
    • GPS
  • Forbidden Practice:

    Any motorized mode of transportation except for non-competing participants in support vehicle
