The Event: The event is a part of the GorgeFest 2004 celebration. The course gives participants a real taste of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Participants will be treated to live music, a beer garden, and a lot of food following their 1/2 Iron challenge. The event festivities give all those involve much more than just a pretty race. The course will be USAT sanctioned. The 1.2 Mile Swim: The event and the swim will start at Riverfront Park in the Dalles. The swim is a triangle swim in a relatively sheltered area of the Columbia River. Wetsuits are required. The water temperature should be about 60 degrees. The 56-Mile Bike: The bike will originally travel East out around Petersburg before returning to The Dalles where the course will join the historic Columbia River HWY and follow it into Mosier. The course is rolling with spectacular views. The course is a kinder and gentler version compared to the course that challenged competitors last year. The 13.1 Mile Run: The run course will use a 3-mile out and back on the historic Columbia River Highway to begin, and then it will join the Gorge Marathon and 1/2 Marathon course. The route is incredible with sweeping views of the gorge. The course finishes in Port Marina Park in Hood River, on the banks of the Columbia.
** Since the course is a point to point, there will be a bus available to return you to the starting area. The bike transition is only 4-miles via freeway from the finish. Transistion areas will be secured. Busses will run until about 3:00.
Awards: The top three overall men and women will receive hand crafted awards. Age group winners will also be rewarded. All finishers will earn a hand made finishers medallion.
Aid: There will be water, Ultima, and Hammer Gel on the course. There will also be one “food stop” available on the bike, and one on the run.
